• Makes soil healthier by attracting and storing nutrients, moisture, and beneficial microbiology
• Use indoors or outdoors to grow plants with lush foliage, bigger blooms, and tastier fruit
• Helps soil retain moisture - allowing you to use less water and irrigate less often
• Conditioning your soil with biochar returns pure carbon to the soil, providing a rare opportunity to have a ‘carbon negative’ impact on your local ecosystem
• Made from 100% recycled pecan shells – naturally free from pesticides and wood-treatment chemicals
I Must Garden Biochar is an organic soil amendment that greatly increases water and nutrient retention, helping you grow lush and beautiful plants year after year.
Biochar is created by super heating organic material (like nutshells or wood) in a low oxygen environment. This process creates a unique sponge-like structure, allowing the biochar to easily absorb and store moisture, nutrients, and beneficial microorganisms. It naturally aerates soil which prevents compaction and allows for vigorous and healthy root growth.
With easier access to essential resources and permeable soil, your plants can spend less energy trying to survive, and more energy growing lush foliage, bigger blooms, and delicious fruit. Side by side tests consistently show gardens treated with biochar produce significantly healthier plants compared to untreated soils
Biochar naturally retains moisture and stores it in the treated soil around your plants – making it available for when they need it most. This also prevents water from draining away too quickly and leaching essential nutrients away from your root systems.
Not all biochar is created equally. I Must Garden’s Biochar is made from 100% recycled pecan shells that are free from pesticides and wood-treatment chemicals found in some charcoals. Our pure pecan shell biochar produces a more-uniform granule that is easier to apply and mix with soil.
Conditioning your soil with biochar returns pure carbon to the soil, providing a rare opportunity to have a ‘carbon negative’ impact on your local ecosystem that will sustain for hundreds of years. I Must Garden Biochar is also sourced sustainably. Repurposing pecan shells as biochar keeps thousands of pounds of organic “waste” out of our landfills every year.
For New Plantings: Mix 1 PART biochar into 9 PARTS soil.
For Established Beds or Plants: Mix biochar into the top 4-6 inches of soil. Biochar is most beneficial when worked into the soil, close to plant roots.
If using as a top dressing, mix biochar with compost/mulch before applying.
For Maximum Benefits: “Supercharge” the porous biochar with nutrients and beneficial microbiology by mixing it with moist compost or organic liquid fertilizer 5-10 days prior to planting.
When conditioning soil, biochar should make up roughly 10% of your soil mixture.
1lb of I Must Garden Biochar treats up to 10lbs of soil.
