I Must Garden Squirrel Repellent is an environmentally safe, humane, and effective way to deter squirrels from damaging plants, furniture, decking/housing, hoses, flower beds/pots, and more! It contains a combination of natural ingredients such as castor oil, garlic and white pepper along with botanical oils that smell and taste bad to squirrels. We developed two squirrel repellents, a Liquid and a Granular, each target different kinds of damage - giving you maximum protection against the costly destruction of squirrels. There are no poisons, harmful chemicals or toxic glues in our products. All of our repellents are safe to use around children and pets, and are completely biodegradable.
A note regarding the use of our Squirrel Repellent on Bird Feeders
Squirrels love bird seed and will often do anything to get on a feeder and eat. While many customers have had great success using our Squirrel Repellent to keep squirrels away from birdfeeders, there are some squirrels that love seeds so much they will ignore dogs, physical barriers, and even strong squirrel repellents on their way to their favorite snack. Because of the variable nature of squirrels, we do not guarantee our Squirrel Repellent for use on bird feeders. If you choose to use our Squirrel Repellent on bird feeders, rest assured, it will not harm birds.

The Right Repellent for Every Problem
I Must Garden Squirrel Repellent is available in a variety of ready-to-use spray and granular sizes.
How to Apply
We developed two repellents, a liquid and granular, to target specific types of squirrel damage. The Spray and Granular work great together too, giving you maximum control when protecting flower pots, planters, bulbs, trees, and more.
If you live in an area where you regularly experience squirrel damage, preemptively apply the repellent before undesirable bad habits take hold. When it comes to animal damage, it is easier to prevent a habit than to break one. If bad habits are already established, initial applications may need to be heavier and more frequent until under control.
Prevent Chewing and Gnawing – Use the Spray!
There is nothing more frustrating than to find newly planted bulbs, lawn furniture, outdoor cushions, or expensive decking damaged by the endless chewing of squirrels. Stopping that damage is easy with I Must Garden Squirrel Repellent Spray. Simply spray plants and surfaces for long-lasting protection. Please consider the following guidelines:
Protecting plants
- Apply repellent to dry surfaces. This helps the repellent adhere to the surface and gives it long lasting effectiveness and rain resistance
- Be thorough with your spray - make sure you cover the area you want protected with a fine mist
- Reapply repellent every 2-4 weeks. Areas with heavy squirrel pressure may require more frequent applications. Adjust application times as necessary
- Squirrels cause most of their damage early in the morning. For best results, water your plants in the morning and apply the repellent in the evening. This way the repellent will still be strong when the squirrels start scoping things out come daybreak
Protecting outdoor furniture, planters & pots, decking, and buildings
- Be thorough with your spray - make sure you cover the area you want protected with a fine mist
- Before applying to directly to furniture and decking, check for staining and discoloring in an inconspicuous area
- To protect outdoor cushions from squirrels and to prevent staining finer fabrics, spray paper towels with the repellent and lay the paper towels directly on the cushions. Doing this in the evening will dissuade the early morning mischief squirrels take delight in
- Apply repellent to dry surfaces. This helps the repellent adhere to the surface and gives it long lasting effectiveness and rain resistance. Reapply as necessary to maintain control
- Applying repellent to planters and pots helps protect the container from chewing, but also offers additional protection to the treated plants inside
Prevent Digging – Use the Granular
Squirrels are notorious for digging up newly planted seedlings in flower pots. The soft soil in flowerpots is an indication of recently hidden nuts and/or seeds. In the process of looking for the nuts in the soil squirrels will fling the plants out of the pot. How many times have you had to replant nearly dead seedlings only to have the same thing happen the next day?
Protecting your flower pots, beds, and lawn from digging damage is easy with I Must Garden Squirrel Repellent. Please consider the following guidelines:
- To repel squirrels from digging in pots, planters and flowerbeds, generously sprinkle I Must Garden Squirrel Repellent onto the surface of the soil at a rate of approximately 1 lb for every 50 sq. ft.
- Granular repellent can also be mixed into soil when planting
- Reapply repellent every 2-4 weeks. Areas with heavy squirrel pressure may require more frequent applications. Adjust application frequency as necessary to maintain control
- It is easier to prevent a habit than break one – consider applying repellent as soon as plants are in the soil
Protect Bulbs
Both new bulbs and established bulb beds can be protected with I Must Garden Squirrel Repellents.
To protect new plantings:
- Remove loose skin from bulbs and set in pan
- Granular repellent can also be mixed into soil when planting
- Cover bulbs with repellent and soak for 15 minutes
- Remove bulbs from the repellent and plant (Save leftover liquid repellent for later use)
- To provide additional protection, consider a top dressing of either the spray or the granular repellent
To protect established plantings:
- Sprinkle Granular Repellent on top of planted area, or
- Spray the Liquid Repellent on top of the planted area
